The Children's Society

The Children's Society is a UK-wide charity that works with the country's most vulnerable children and young people and their families.  Its projects include refuges for young runaways, family centres in areas of high unemployment, independent living projects for young people leaving care, family placements for children with special needs, and respite care so that families can take a weekend break or holiday.  The Society seeks to encourage everyone to listen more attentively to what children are telling us and to address the social issues which concern them.

Members of St Michael’s Church contribute to the important work of The Children’s Society, mainly in the following ways -

  • Collecting boxes kept at home for accumulating odd amounts of change.
  • Annual Christingle Service in conjunction with St Michael’s School.
  • Giant Christmas Card whereby against a donation Seasonal Wishes are recorded instead of sending individual Christmas Cards to fellow Parishioners.
Annual amounts of up to £2,500 are raised for the work of The Children’s Society.  Further information can be obtained from Carole Macdonald.

Christingle Thank You 2024 – “The total amount raised for The Children's Society by St Michael's School and the Church at the Christingle service this year was £416. This is a great total and many thanks to everyone who donated, planned and played a part in the lovely service”, Carole Macdonald.
