Lent and Easter 2026
A printable booklet version of this information is available here.
PRAYING IN LENT:
Before services in Lent we will be encouraging congregations to give time to thoughtful preparation for worship. There are leaflets with prayer and devotional material available in the Publicity Area in church (
available here too). Here is a prayer you may like to use at home in this season:
Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing that you have made

and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent:
create and make in us new and contrite hearts
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may receive from you, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

WORSHIP IN LENT: ‘TEMPTATION, TEMPTATION!’:
Sunday services will feature a sermon series pondering different aspects of temptation. See the Gospel Radings below for more details. The aim of the series is to explore something of what Scripture teaches about the different drives and desires which can separate us from God, and how by God’s grace we can live more faithful, obedient lives of discipleship.
REFLECTION AND FELLOWSHIP IN LENT:
On Tuesday Lunchtimes at 12 noon, we will hold meditations in the Lady Chapel. These will be followed by a frugal lunch and fellowship in the Windhill Churches Centre, in aid of the two charities supported by our Charities Support Group Lent Appeal this year.
This year our theme is Journey to the Cross, with an audio reading from Bear Grylls book, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’: a retelling of the Gospel through the eyes of those who knew Jesus best, a short reflection, music and prayer.

STUDY AND READING IN LENT:
We are currently promoting The Bible Course as an opportunity for study in Lent, and hope there will be enough uptake to make this viable. Please look at at www.biblesociety.org.uk/the-bible-course-digital-hub (you’ll need to register first; it’s free) for more information, or have a look at some sample literature which is in the Windhill Churches Centre. You’ll find sign-up sheets to indicate interest in the Publicity Area in Church, and in the WCC.
If you can’t commit to joining a course, you might like to read Andrew Ollerton’s ‘The Bible: A Story that makes Sense of Life’ as a 2026 Lent Book.
Another suggestion for Lent reading is Rowan Williams’ ‘Meeting God in Paul’. It’s an accessible introduction to important aspects of Paul’s faith and thought, concluding with a Lent Bible Reading scheme, plus reflections and prayers.
