Who are we linked to in St Michael’s? What are our community connections?
We have close links with organisations like Mothers’ Union, the Friends of St Michaels, and the Bell tower; with several churches, the three Anglican ones and St Joseph and the English Martyrs Roman Catholic Church; with other churches as part of Churches Together Bishop’s Stortford.
We have other close links with the Town Council, the Boys’ Brigade, the British Legion, St Michael’s School, and the YMCA to name a few.
We don’t have close connections with the various sports teams, the market, or the hospital for example.
Thoughts on our community connections:
We have a good internal structure in St Michael’s:
The Clergy and Churchwardens support the PCC’s sub-committees. Three of the sub-committees are supporting, working in the background to maintain the mission of the church. Five of the sub-committees are actively working to support the church and its activities, like choir, junior church, homegroups, Company on Sunday, and the Holly Fayre, to name a few. Do these activities support the mission of the church into Bishop’s Stortford?
Thoughts on our internal structure:
It is a good exercise to compare and contrast our surroundings with other churches:
Porches: Langleybury and ours…
Picture boards: Methodists and ours…
Notice boards: ours… but what do they ‘say’ about us from how they look?
Prayer boads: St Andrews, Bedford, and ours…
Welcome desks: St Andrews, Bedford, and ours…
And from us…
… compared to…
