Confirmation is a special service of Christian Initiation, like Baptism and Admission to Holy Communion. Whether you have been baptised already or not, Confirmation is a very special event in which you are given the opportunity to affirm your faith and commitment to the Christian life of discipleship.
In a Confirmation service the Bishop will lay his/her hands on your head and pray a special prayer of blessing over you as well as asking for the Holy Spirit to descend upon you. This is a practice which dates back to the early church and can be found in the Bible (Acts 8:14-17, 9:17, 19:6 and Hebrews 6:2.)
If you are interested in Confirmation, but perhaps not completely sure or you find the idea a little scary, then I encourage you to get in touch with a member of the clergy for a chat! We’re all very friendly and we can help you discern whether you’d like to put yourself forward for Confirmation. If you wish to proceed, you’ll be invited to explore the Christian faith a little more either in a group with others exploring Confirmation or with a member of the ministry team. This gives you a chance to reflect upon whether Confirmation is right for you – there is no pressure to go forward for Confirmation if it isn’t!
If you have any questions about Confirmation or would just like to explore it further, then please get in touch with a member of the ministry team and we’d be more than happy to help!
